Maurice '"Footsie" Britt

A 1937 graduate of Lonoke, he was an Arkansas Razorback
football star. After one season with the Detroit Lions he
was called into the service in December 1941. As a platoon
comander in the 3rd Infantry in Italy in 1944, he was
seriouly injured, loosing his right arm. He was the first
soldier to be decorated with the nation's three highest
honors, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, in a
single war. He served Arkansas as Lieutenant Governor
from1967 to 1970 and made an unsuccesful bid for Governor in
1986. He died in 1995. |
