New York Giants Head Coach, Jim Lee Howell (1954-1960) Born in Lonoke 1914. Graduated 1933 . Football & Basketball star U of A (1933-37). President of Student Body. Player NY Giants '37-'47. Head Coach 1954-1960. His offensive coach was Vince Lombardi & his defensive coach was Tom Landry. Won the NFL championship in '56, runner-up twice. Later served as Gen. Manager and scout. Member Ark Legislature 1940-1941. Marine Capt. WWII. Member inaugural class of Ark Sports Hall of Fame 1959. Died- Lonoke 1995.
